Bishop to launch Changing Attitude Group

Article from Ipswich Evening Star. A CAMPAIGN urging Suffolk’s Christians to accept gay people into the church is being launched today. The Rev Andrew Dotchin, the Rev Mary Sokanovic and worshipper Julie Clifford were today writing to every church in the county in a bid to change attitudes towards gay and lesbian Christians.

Mr Dotchin said: “Playtime is over. It’s time for people to come out, come out wherever they are and stand up for the truth.” Homosexuality has long been a divisive issue in the worldwide Christian church but Mr Dotchin, joined by his gay son Johnathan in launching the campaign, said: “The way some Christians treat gay people is unjust, un-Christian and downright disgusting. For me, God cares for every single person in the world.”

The trio are forming a Suffolk branch of Changing Attitude, an organisation that works for gay, lesbian and bisexual people to be fully welcomed into the church. They are being supported by The Rt Rev Richard Lewis, bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, who will speak at the Suffolk branch of Changing Attitude’s first meeting next month.
