PREACHER EMPHASIZES THE COURAGE AND THE EXAMPLE OF THE DIOCESE OF RECIFE IN THE THANKSGIVING SERVICE FOR THE 30th ANNIVERSARY

“Facing the difficulties that we are living, we had received inspiration and encourage from your Bishop. You and your bishop has raised in favor of the right things, and has suffered for this. But your courage and your suffering has giving us courage and is justly for that, that persons in the Anglican Communion Network, are mobilizing in other to follow your example”, said Bishop Donald Harvey from Canada, (and representative of the Most Reverend Gregory Venables, Primate of the Southern Cone) in his sermon preached in the Festival Thanksgiving Service for the 30th Years of Ecclesiastical organization of the Diocese of Recife, that to place last May 20th 2006 in the Holy Spirit Parish, Jaboatão dos Guararapes City, State of Pernambuco, formed by the enthusiastic attendance, composed by most of its clergy, lay leadership from the several parishes and missions and by representative and other Christian denominations.

Bishop Harvey received on that occasion the Highest Diocesan Award “Bishop Kinsolving Medal”, emphasizes that. “What I would like to observe today is that this question is much more than homosexuality. Even if that question could be solved tomorrow, yet we would have other problems to solve. There are several bishops in our church facing difficulties situations. I find refuge and comfort and the words of the Apostle Peter after the Pentecost in one marvelous sentence that we cannot never forget: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4.12. You in Recife remember always that it is upon this that you courage is built up. It is built up in the centrality of Jesus Christ, Son of God, only Lord. It is based also upon this Book (The Bible) that contain everything that is needed for our Salvation.

For that preacher: “ When we start to question the Bible, something is wrong, when the people affirm that the Bible has to be revised is not only to be revised, but to change the content of the World. They want to omit certain passages from the Bible, or change them, in other of our culture may accept them. But, friends, this we cannot do. We need to be faithful, at any cost. We need to continue our journey. We need to be faithful in continue to suffer. We even have the assurance about our future road, but God we will use this Book as our guide and Jesus Christ is our example. For this reasons we cannot be afraid. The Prophet Jeremiah says: “Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them. I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and to save you,” declares the LORD.” Jr 15.19-20. For that reason we are together.

Bishop Donald Harvey also emphasizes: “You are celebrating today 30th years. It is important to spend a time looking to the past; but it is more important to spend a time looking to the future, and certainly we will have your courage and your example. Because we know that your hands are firms in the plough, and we will not look to the past. Do not disappoint us. More and that do not disappoint Jesus Christ”.

And the Canadian Bishop concluded: “My last message to you today comes from the book of Acts 18.9b-10: “…Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” Remember there are many people here in Recife and many people in the Anglican Communion praying for you. Let ask God that we may fulfill our part. Amen.”

Messages from several authorities of the Executive and Legislative Powers from non-governmental organizations and from Religious Leaderships were read in the final of the Service, that was closed in a vibrant form by the singing of the doxology: “Make your Church Strong”.
