Griswold proposes joint meeting of HoB and HoD
PB Griswold proposal for a joint meeting of the HoB and HoD on Wednesday at 1045 to prepare a simple response to Windsor has been accepted. The PB will address the two houses in terms of the language necessary to deal with the concerns of the Anglican Communion. The argument was made that the House of Deputies voted 60%-40% to reconsider the motion, which showed a majority who wanted to reconsider although not the required 2/3 majority.
A special meeting of the special committee will craft a new resolution which will in simple language seek to respond to the Windsor report.
A proposal will then come from the House of Bishops and then be sent to the House of Deputies.
In the debate Bishop Bob Duncan of Pittsburgh said “What I would like to ask of the house is honesty as we make whatever decision we make. In this church this is the one assembly that can speak. In particular the honesty of the situation we are in. I think we have seen that we cannot agree to do what we have been asked. To take the route of a mind of the house resolution seems to be provide some kind of a cover in the rest of the world, but is it truthful? It is ironic that one of the houses having spoken we would speak in the opposite way suggesting to the world that it is not true.”
