An open letter in support of Wycliffe Hall
Wycliffe Hall is clearly one of the premier and fullest theological colleges in the Church of England. We the undersigned are disturbed at recent attempts to undermine confidence in Wycliffe Hall and the contribution and work of its new Principal, Richard Turnbull. These negative views are not apparently shared by the last, present and elect Student Presidents [read here->http://www.anglican-mainstream.net/?p=1744], nor by ourselves as leaders (by God’s grace) of large and vigorous churches. We are clear in our support and appreciation of the gifts and priorities that Richard brings to his new appointment.
We have every confidence in the ministerial training that is being offered at Wycliffe and the direction that the Principal is giving. What matters in theological training is the quality of the ordinands being trained in the Scriptures for the work of the gospel in the realities and rigours of parish ministry in today’s culture and climate. We are and would be glad both to send ordinands to Wycliffe and to receive curates from the college.
It is our concern that Richard should know our support and affirmation for him and the college at this time.
Yours sincerely
David Banting (St Peters Harold Wood)
Richard Bewes (Former Rector of All Souls Langham Place)
Mark Ashton (St Andrews the Great, Cambridge)
