Archbishop of Wales to chair pre-Lambeth Conference

The Archbishop of Wales is chairing the pre-Lambeth Conference of the Modern Churchpeople’s Union, July 8-11 2008, “Saving the Soul of Anglicanism – the nature and future of the Anglican Communion” with speakers Gene Robinson, Frank Griswold, Trevor Mwamba and Marilyn McCord Adams. Archbishop Barry Morgan is also a member of the joint Standing Committee which is meeting in the USA at the end of September to review The Episcopal Church’s compliance with the Windsor Report and Dar-Es-Salaam communique.

AM notes that The Mind of Anglicans Survey, 2002, conducted by Christian Research, surveyed what clergy believe ‘without question’. As of 2002,

39% of Modern Churchpeople’s Union clergy believe in God the Father who created the world. 8% believe that Jesus Christ was born of a Virgin. 12% believe that Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead. The figures for Reform Clergy are 96%, 92% and 93%.

On moral and ethical issues – of MCU clergy 29% are opposed to abortion, of Reform clergy, 93%. 96% of MCU clergy are in favour of the ordination of practising homosexuals, 7% of Reform clergy. 43% of MCU clergy are opposed to euthanasia, 94% of Reform clergy.

To the statement ‘I believe that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way by which we can be saved’, only 6 per cent of MCU clergy believed without question, as opposed to 92% Reform.
