To all who have written regarding the graphic images of abortion
My attention has been drawn to the fact that some recent images on the AM site have been disturbing. Indeed they are disturbing! And we should be disturbed by them and stirred to action. They represent the now-operant reality of a culture of death in our society – a society that believes that boundaries observed for centuries can be broken in the cause of personal ‘reproductive’ freedom. If one life is saved from an abortion as a result of someone being stirred by seeing these images of what await the most vulnerable in our society – unborn children – then it will be worth it. Jesus placed a child in the midst of his disciples to show what was really important in the kingdom of God. I do hope that those who are disturbed enough to express discomfort at these images appearing on the website will also be disturbed enough to take some form of concrete action.
I will also say here that many of my good friends have been through the ordeal of abortion. And as the adage goes, abortion leaves one dead and one wounded. As I told a convinced ‘pro-choicer’ after a debate in Bristol, a woman can’t ‘de-pregnant’ herself or turn back the clock to a pre-pregnant status. She is either the mother of a living baby or a dead one: no other options are available. And if her conscious self refuses to recognise this and insists upon denial, her subconscious self and her body remembers only too well. My friends have paid the devil for their abortions, little realizing they would at the time. ‘Liberating’ is the one thing their ‘minor little ops.’ were not. They were not told the ‘other side’ and went ahead on the basis of inaccurate and incomplete information. I have grieved for them and what they have been through. But they would insist that women at least know what is entailed. If the graphic imagery up on AM can alert people to what is actually the case in an abortion procedure – instead of the linguistic smokescreen of ‘product of conception’, ‘foetal tissue’ etc. – then it will be worth it.
Finally, this issue is pressingly, worryingly current. In two days’ time, the UK Parliament will vote on this issue (among others). Given that there were ca 198,500 abortions carried out in 2007 (and the numbers keep climbing) we need to be more than theoretically pro-life. In a fortnight’s time, the US will have its presidential vote. Given that Senator Obama has promised that ‘the first thing I’d do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act’ — which is essentially unlimited abortion up to birth, and includes the barbaric partial-birth abortion procedure — this is also more than theoretical. In the US ca 1.25 million abortions occurred last year. What is almost worse is that black pre-born babies are targeted at far higher levels than are those of other ethnic groups. 37% of all abortions occurred on black babies. 10% of the population is black. Is that not heading in a sinister direction of genocide? Canadian pro-lifers as well are trying valiantly to roll back their abortion rates through various means, including political, religious and cultural avenues.
45-50 million unborn baby girls and boys lose their lives each year around the globe. Given this present reality, though we have no desire to shock or be ‘extreme’, we must alert our readers to what is actually happening now, on the ground. Not knowing does not make it go away. Rather, as AbortionNO.org insists, ‘When abortion is hidden, abortion is tolerated.’ And sadly this is only too true. So it is time to allow the reality of abortion speak for itself.
Thank you to all who have taken the time to write. We at AM really appreciate hearing from you. Please consider what has been said here and do get back to me if you remain unconvinced.
