More Intolerance by the Forces of Tolerance

By Bill Muehlenberg

In police states which feign some degree of freedom, oppressive governments have various ways to repress dissent and keep the masses from expressing their concerns. Militias or government forces dressed in civilian clothing will often patrol the public spaces on the lookout for any signs of rebellion or protest.

When such outbursts of freedom and democracy are encountered, they are quickly dealt with: beatings, arrests, intimidation and coercion are all weapons of the totalist state. In the face of such crackdowns on free speech and contrary views, we can all be glad to live in the free West. But are things really all that different here?

One very ironic aspect of the contemporary Western world is that the more we trumpet the values of tolerance and inclusiveness, the more intolerant we seem to be becoming. Western freedoms and democracy are being used and abused by militant activist groups to push their agendas, regardless of the rest of society’s approval.

And increasingly these activist groups are imitating the attack squads found in the police states. They regularly go around searching out any signs of dissent, and often disrupt any public meetings or gatherings where free-thinking individuals dare to question the agendas of the activist groups.

An obvious example of this are the militant homosexual activists who are continually on the prowl to disrupt, shout down, or even force the closure of any group activity which they do not approve of. They not only target any public meeting, but increasingly private ones as well. They are happy to disrupt church services and intimidate private citizens going about their own business.

Many Christians have felt the full wrath and fury of these forces of ‘tolerance’. Indeed, many examples of this anti-Christian bigotry have been documented. One pastor has even written up a harrowing account of how the homosexualist attack squads have assaulted his family and church. See Chuck and Donna McIlhenny, When the Wicked Seize a City (Huntington House, 1993).

No wonder they are increasingly referred to as the gaystapo. They are the self-appointed vigilantes for political correctness and the homosexualist cause. And so often they they have the tacit support of the state. With harmful ‘hate crime’ laws being passed all around the Western world, the State is siding with these militant groups, and clamping down on the freedoms of ordinary citizens.

And plenty of institutions – both public and private – are embracing the cause of the militants, using coercive measures to ensure that their agenda is fully carried out. Corporations, schools, universities, workplaces and other bodies are all becoming willing or unwilling standard-bearers for the radical homosexual agenda.
