MONDAY of the First Week of Advent –
Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle

As in the case of most of the apostles we have little information about  the lives of these 12 (other than  Peter and John) Today we give thanks that Andrew  was called personally by Jesus to proclaim the Good News, to heal, forgive and proclaim with Jesus' power.  What we do know about Andrew in the Gospels is that Andrew knew immediately upon meeting Jesus Christ for the very first time that Jesus was the Savior. He knew such a fact could not be kept a secret and must share this information right away. Andrew quickly brought his brother to meet Jesus. This day will we keep the promise of Jesus a secret or will we follow the example of blessed Andrew and share this Jesus we seek with another?

PRAYER: Lord, in your kindness hear our petitions. You called Andrew the apostle
to preach the gospel and guide your Church in faith. May he always be our friend in your presence to help us with his prayers? We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen

Activity – Using an internet search, identify people in need in Romania and Russia and take time to pray for your brothers and sisters around the world.  If you can, make a charitable donation to a Christian ministry who seeks to meet their needs and forgo spending that would have been spent on yourself.

Ancient Wisdom/Present Grace: St. Andrew is perhaps best know as the he patron saint of  Scotland ( also Russia and Romania) Tradition holds that he spent a great portion of his adult life traveling between Greece and the area known today as Russia and Romania converting many to Christianity. Saint Andrew is also the patron saint for all fishing related industry, and he is sometimes portrayed with fishing nets. He is also the patron saint of Army Rangers, mariners, rope-makers, singers and performers.
