The struggle against totalitarianism in Western culture
StandFirm’s Jackie Bruchi published ‘Off Topic – Climate Change: This Is The Worst Scientific Scandal Of Our Generation’ over the weekend, tackling what is now known as Climategate. Though this issue is very complex indeed, and many comments could be made, one stands out for me. Have you noticed the odd similarities between the corporate personas of the two ‘Establishments’ — one relating to the politicization of climate, the other relating to the politicization of the psychological/educational/legal culture in the West today — where one point of view alone is tolerated? If you disagree, your erstwhile friends and colleagues distance themselves and you are left looking ridiculous, extreme, even mentally incompetent, a bone fide ‘Flat Earther’ in 2009. For those who inhabit any world where PC is the air we all breathe, this method of handling intellectual and ideological dissenters is rather too familiar.
If nothing else comes from Climategate, perhaps there may emerge a bit of transparency, intellectual honesty and open debate about the evidence and its implications and a lessening of an appalling hubris which verges on and sometimes crosses over into intimidation and bullying.
