Take action!

May I encourage you to keep the Manhattan Declaration in your thoughts and prayers and included in your To Do list this Advent?  It is already having significant impact beyond America, and the greater number of signatories the greater its global impact will be.  http://www.manhattandeclaration.org/

It is quipped that Winston Churchill won the war by talking about it.  LIkewise, please be talking up the Manhattan Declaration amongst your friends, colleagues and family, and at your church, and disseminate it as best suits your environment. .

One of the primary subconscious pressures at this busy time will be to 'give it a miss' because everyone else is on board.  This is not true — many who would be have yet to hear of it!

Another is that some still see this as a 'political' document and as Christians they  'steer clear' of politics.  Well, though they may eschew 'politics' per se, they probably do not 'steer clear' of life.  Most people live and move in this world — that is, unlike those inhabiting cloisters, they enjoy their homes, children and family life; they invest in their professions and jobs; they are members of various kinds of communities; they have both a public past and a public future.  But the Manhattan Declaration relates to the freedom to speak about and live in accordance with core Christian beliefs and values. If these freedoms  are lost, then it is not that our political preferences will have failed to gain ascendency, but that the very basis of our Christian living is at risk. This does not stay in an avoidable public realm  'out there', but rather imposes on the daily rhythms and structures of life. .

Kevin JenningsAnd finally, please could you respond to the appallingly bad appointment of Kevin Jennings as 'Safe School Czar'? Having lived on sexually 'alternative' sites, the pornographic material (see here, and  here for tasters) which Jennings' organization, GLSEN, promotes is familiar. GLSEN is now embedded in over 4,000 US schools. .

GLSEN and Jennings have the backing of the White House, which endows them with respectability and authority.  This is in sad contrast to the real nature of what is going on, and how it is hidden from wider public visibility (and outcry) by the ignorance or denial of those whose sensibilities or politics keep them in the dark.

If you care about kids  — if you care about your children or grandchildren, or other people's children or grandchildren — please consider responding by doing a bit of calling and/or emailing.  Most worrying are the kids no one seems to care much about — the waifs and loners, the troubled, the unwanted — who seem to gravitate to such groups, not knowing what they are letting themselves in for.  I am most worried about them.  Could you act on their behalf?  Contact Arne Duncan, Education Secretary:  (202) 401 3000; arne.duncan@ed.gov; or President Obama's switchboard: (202) 456 1414 or comment line:  (202) 456 1111.  If you are not an American but have friends or family who are, they may wish to know and respond.  Thank you!
