One to watch?
By Edward Tomlinson
A new sitcom for the BBC will revolve around the life of a parish priest who finds himself out of his depth when moving from a sleepy country parish to the hustle and bustle of a busy town church. The premise is rather good and I can certainly see the scope for plenty of material. Could this be an hilarious new comedy show that touches upon some of the more serious matters in life and reminds people of what faith can contribute?
Or will it turn out to be a BBC vehicle for telling us what we should think concerning church matters? You know the sort of thing, whereby those opposed to women’s ordination are shown as being sexist old dinosaurs and those embracing gay marriage are enlightened heroes of the people. Is it overly cynical to suspect there will be a hidden left leaning agenda behind the show? My experience of the BBC suggests not but nevertheless I shall keep an open mind and set the skybox to record!
