Anti-Papal protests falling apart
From The Church Mouse
Despite being quite successful in creating a media narrative of an increasingly hostile public mood with regards to the Papal visit, there is now overwhelming evidence that the reverse is actually true. Mouse really doesn't want to be a cheerleader for the Pope, and has made his criticisms clear on a number of occasions, but Mouse feels obliged to point out nonsense when he sees it.
Mouse points to four pieces of evidence:
1. There seems to have been a big down-sizing of the planned protests. Initially, the Protest the Pope group said that there would be mass protests wherever the Pope goes. Now it seems they have scaled back their protest events to a single march in central London. There are a number of ancillary events, such as a 'film season' and public debates, but in terms of mobilising reasonable numbers of people to protest, there is now just a single event. It was reported in Scotland that the protest there had been abandoned due to lack of support.
