A Queer Thing happened to America is a very, very important book. It is no exaggeration to say it should be required reading for everyone who cares about the future of their family and of our civilization. Every parent, grandparent, teacher, church minister, media interviewer and politician who has any suspicions at all that it is not really 'OK to be gay' and finds political correctness peculiarly perverse will find this book a deeply disturbing revelation.
Despite homosexuality being condemned virtually everywhere until the 1960s and homosexual promiscuity accelerating the spread of HIV/AIDS in the 1980s, Dr Michael L Brown explains with great clarity how the homosexual and LGBT 'culture' has come to such prominence. Missing an index but backed up with 90 pages of close-typed end notes, this book is no simple minded conservative Christian diatribe against homosexuals or homosexuality. In fact Dr Brown calls for the church to repent for demonizing them. Fortunately his finely balanced and thorough research is presented so compellingly that it could be the hinge factor in the culture wars presently being fought for the future of western civilization. As he says, "the purpose of this book is to see how we got to this point, to examine some of the main lines of pro-gay thought, to consider the impact of gay activism on our society and to ask the question: Where is the current trajectory taking us?"
Today supporters of homosexual 'rights' routinely silence those who criticise homosexual practices on moral, health, social or religious grounds by malevolently accusing them of "homophobia" and using "hate" speech. This highly successful tactic was advocated by Kirk & Madsen in their 1990 Machiavellian masterpiece After the Ball; How America will conquer its fear and hatred of gays in the 90s. To rescue the faltering gay rights movement from an AIDS backlash they turned to the classic totalitarian strategy of using psychological techniques through the mass media to desensitise the public to a traditional threat, silence objectors to it and recruit sympathizers to its cause by exploiting their natural compassion towards those who suffer. Dr Brown could have devoted a little more space than he does to considering this crucial blueprint for homosexual rights campaigning.
When he offered his 700 page book, which is filled with examples of homosexual activists ruthlessly exploiting their new protective laws, especially against orthodox Christians, every publisher rejected it. Terrified of offending the political correctness brigade as well as the homosexual rights lobby, they all "persuaded" themselves that anything so controversial would incur the bankrupting wrath of the activists. So Dr Brown founded EqualTime Books and became a publisher. And now the 21st century has what it needs to recognize this Orwellian cancer for what it really is and prevent it from corrupting every cherished institution from the traditional family to our systems of government.
In the 20th century the western democracies sacrificed much precious blood to defend Christian civilization and its sacred rights to free speech, freedom of religion and belief. But since homosexual rights activists have 'won' special legal protections for themselves these much more important rights have been lost. And it is a monumental insult to those heroes who died defending free speech for it to mean nothing now so far as challenging homosexuality is concerned. Let us begin to honour their memory and join Dr Brown in defending our democratic future by turning back the tide of politically correct insanity which threatens to engulf us all.
