The news that Boris Johnson is backing Out4Marriage is highly significant. It means both the current leader of the Conservative Party and his most likely successor are in favour of same-sex marriage.
In terms of electoral planning, embracing the Blairite social agenda is a sensible move by these rival Conservative leaders. Younger voters indoctrinated in political correctness in state education under New Labour are passionately in favour of gay rights.
Though a little older than they, pop star Will Young spoke for them when he argued on BBC Question Time that opponents of same-sex marriage should be arrested.
This new generation of voters perceive opposition to full homosexual equality as worse than an eccentricity. Because political correctness teaches that homosexual practice is intrinsic to a person's identity rather than a moral choice they make, any expressed opposition to any aspect of the gay rights agenda must be perceived as a criminal attitude on a par with racial hatred.
